COMPASS accepts applicants majoring in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences who are interested in conducting research with a biomedical application, particularly as it relates to stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in addressing the health care needs of California’s varied demographics through scientific research and/or within the scientific workforce. Applicants of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply including:

- Students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds
- Students who are the first in their family to pursue higher education in the United States
- Students with past involvement or interest in community health issues
Freshmen Applicants:

- Successfully completed MCDB 30H as a freshman
- Sophomore standing by the time the student will begin as a COMPASS trainee
- Submit application in spring of freshman year
Transfer Applicants:

- Successfully completed BMD RES 5HA or BMD RES 10H or Transfer Summer Program’s Res Prac 103
- Transfer student having two years remaining at UCLA at the start of the program
- Submit application in late summer or early fall depending on program’s application deadline
