BISEP is a 6-week Summer intensive program designed to engage the motivated UCLA undergraduate entering their Sophomore year and prepare these students for rigors of faculty-mentored biomedical research in the Fall.
The goal of BISEP is to equip the under-represented minority student, who is likely to pursue research careers in the biomedical sciences, with experience on an independent research project early in their academic careers. BISEP students are consequently prepared for upper-division coursework in the biomedical sciences.
Accepted students are required to attend molecular biology lectures, laboratory sessions, journal clubs, career development workshops and seminars.
Many students who have participated in BISEP have been awarded prestigious research scholarships in programs such as Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC), and University of California Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degress (UC LEADS).
